Monastir Del camp
This country priory is near the village of Passa and boasts a stunning view of the Canigou.
The site dates from the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries although legend has it that a first building was erected in Carolingian times. Indeed, certain elements attest to a presence here well before Charlemagne.
The Monastir has been in private hands since 1786. Prior to this, it was home to a group of Canons Regular. The owner, François Jaubert de Passa, was a distinguished archaeologist, hydrologist and writer. He was also a friend and correspondent of Prosper Mérimée. After his death, the site was listed as a historic monument in 1862.
