Local Area

This town of 8000 people lies on the edge of the Roussillon plain, at the foothills of the Pyrenees, between mountains and sea.

Thuir is the centre of the Aspres economy and wine-growing industry.

A former walled village in mediaeval times, this Catalan town conceals many hidden treasures: the “Cellera”, the spot where Thuir was founded in 950, Notre Dame de la Victoire church, the 15th century Chapelle St Sébastien, the 17th century Chapelle de la Pietat, and the remains of the old ramparts and watchtowers.

The birthplace of the famous aperitif Byrrh is a dynamic and bustling town, rich in culture. It is also known for its markets and fairs.

It is a vibrant place all year round, and in summer the varied programme of events makes it all the more appealing.
